About The Organization
Workshops, Inc. is a training and employment
center for people who experience physical or mental
disabilities. This
United Way partner provides services which include
vocational training as well as training in life skills
necessary for vocational success. Because Workshops,
Inc. provides services to local business and industry,
participants learn basic competencies associated with
work by actually doing work such as assembly, packaging,
bindery services, mailing services, printing and food
services. Additionally, classroom settings are
available for job seeking skills and life skills.
Workshops, Inc. is a private school registered with
the State of Alabama. It is accredited by
The Accreditation
Commission (CARF), the premier national accrediting
body for such organizations. The orgainzation is a member of the
Alabama Association of Rehabilitation Facilities
(AARF). While Workshops, Inc. is largely
self-supporting through business services, the
United Way of
Central Alabama and the
Alabama
Department of Rehabilitation Services
provide substantial support enabling no cost
access to the public who meet admission criteria.
This agency is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization.
Over the past thirty years, services have enabled
3,000 people to get and hold jobs in the community.
It is our relationship with
Business
and Industry that makes it work so well. It is
the quality, on-time jobs that we do for our customers
that teaches us the importance of excellence and restores
our opportunity to be like others, to earn and
contribute, to be self sufficient.
