ABOUT US
Workshops provides job training and employment services for people who have severe disabilities. People receiving services earn wages by performing assembly, packaging, printing, bindery and mailing services. Some earn their living while receiving training in reception, food services, building maintenance, warehousing, materials handling, fork lift operation, local delivery and other activities.
The agency has been in continuous operation for over fifty years and is proud that it is largely self supporting through its business services. United Way, the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services and donations also fund support staff and operational costs related to training.
With a work force of over two hundred people, Workshops, Inc. can handle up to one million units of material per month. In 2009, the agency enjoyed about 350 business customers working and placing orders for over 300 companies in Jefferson and Shelby Counties.
The jobs completed for our customers translate into employment in the community. In 2009, 116 people obtained jobs with area employers (projection based on 10 months data). An additional 87 people with severe disabilities had on-going employment at Workshops, Inc. In all, about 500 people received training or other vocational services (projected).
Workshops, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization dedicated to the principle that work and employment provide the opportunity to be like others, to contribute and maintain a rewarding life.
